Metapolitics (sometimes written meta-politics) is metalinguistic talk about the analytic, synthetic, and normative language of political inquiry and politics itself. Put simply, it is dialogue about the way we talk about politics… In current usage and praxis, the term metapolitics is often used in relation to postmodern theories of the Subject and their relation to political theory. In its broadest definition, metapolitics is a discipline that studies the relationship between the State and the Individual.–Wikipedia
Charlottesville Tomorrow has posted audio for this fascinating moment, left to right councilmanic candidates Scott Bandy, Paul Beyer, Colette Blount, three of the eleven declared candidates.

  1. “What you heard from the candidates just now, where Brevy said we need to have spine in our negotiations, and Dede said we need to hold the county accountable.”
“Well, what that means is that not a lot is going to get done and it‟s going to be more of the same and its going to be more contentiousness. The heart of this issue is cooperation between the county, the city and UVa. We‟re all partners together and this is where I… I‟m a business person and I know I don‟t go into any negotiating table self-righteously or wagging my finger at people saying „you should do this.” The issue is, do you find ways that are mutually beneficial for everybody. And if you can‟t do that, or if you come in with some of these more activist kind of ways, you won‟t get things done.”–Paul Beyer, transcription by Charlottesville Tomorrow

  2. “…activist kind of ways…” Beyer is an ass-hat. Ask any neighborhood where he’s developed and they’ll tell you that he does his business through the backdoor. He’s been wheeling and dealing that way in Charlottesville for several years, and has been trying to overturn any environmental measures that stand in the way of his making money. Anybody who votes for this guy is a deluded fool.
