I stumbled off the track to success in 1968, started chasing shadows that summer. Since then, In addition to farm-laborer and newspaper photographer my occupational incarnations include dishwasher, janitor, retail photo clerk, plumber, HVAC repairman, auto mechanic, CAT scan technologist, computer worker and politico (whatever it takes to buy a camera.) I am on the road to understanding black and white photography.

  1. I first saw a child on a leash June 1976, 3128 West Cary Street, Richmond, Virginia. A father and son at Old Dominion Camera, the Saturday morning rush hour when all the Medical doctors from Windsor Farms would come in to buy more Leica equipment.
    This Doc had a kid on a leash, told him to “sit” while he, the father, spoke with sales manager Bill Fisher.
    The child sat silently, patiently.
