I stumbled off the track to success in 1968, started chasing shadows that summer. Since then, In addition to farm-laborer and newspaper photographer my occupational incarnations include dishwasher, janitor, retail photo clerk, plumber, HVAC repairman, auto mechanic, CAT scan technologist, computer worker and politico (whatever it takes to buy a camera.) I am on the road to understanding black and white photography.

  1. (from Lyne) This is a most interesting photo for me. It’s a good shot. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but if I took it, my eye would put the dominant part of the photo – the dogs – on the left side of the photo instead of the right. I’d flip It. For me, photos more naturally flow from left to right but they don’t always have to be linear. They could run vertically too depending on the composition or not at all. Guess it has something to do with the way my brain is wired. Does being a lefty have anything to do with it? How about you-or does it matter? Wonder if there have been any studies on the effect.
