In May of this year the City took an informal poll on their website asking the public to rank trails.
The City lists the Rivanna River as its number one concern in the environmental
section of its state mandated “Comprehensive Plan”.
Currently, the floodplain next to the river is “zoned for business”.
Backfilling the land to a foot above base flood elevation and building a strip mall would be permissible.
There has been thumb-twiddling regarding establishing a riverine zoning overlay.
In October of 2013 the Woolen Mills Neighborhood requested that the City
make an inventory of the ecological, cultural and recreational assets extant in the
corridor. They couldn’t be bothered. Competition for dollars fierce,
more fire engines and electric vehicles to buy.

one of the more accessible sections of the trail system allowing for the circumambulation of Charlottesville.
The trail parallels the right bank of the Rivanna River for two miles,
terminating at Moores Creek at the base of Monticello Mountain.
business as usual
This road is thirty-six feet wide. Large enough for three or four vehicle travel lanes.
There is a overhead utilities crew working up the street.
They provide notice to oncoming vehicles, locating their sign where the walkers and wheelchairs go.
Business as usual.
stump and rump
“Streets and their sidewalks, the main public places of the city, are its most vital organs.” The Death and Life of Great American Cities Jane Jacobs
The giving tree
“Once there was a tree…and she loved a little boy.” Shel Silverstein.
In 1975 Charlottesville developed a street tree plan.
It was never implemented.
The way we get many of our street trees is making developers plant them,
when the development requires a site plan.
But when the required tree dies, does anyone replace it?
Street Stump!

Scanned a black and white negative this morning. Apple Inc is making this hard to do. If I were to upgrade
beyond OS 10.6.8 my scanner would turn into a brick.
It was a delight to have no processing choices regarding color.
The Tri-X decided.
65th Annual Dogwood Festival Parade
The annual Rorschach test, the Dogwood Festival Parade, took to the streets yesterday. What makes a parade? Fine looking people in uniforms, dresses, martial music, hillbilly music.
Many of my favorite law enforcement officials and politicians participated in the parade.
Buster Ball, the spokesphere for Putt-Putt was followed by the Mountain Dew can with hands. While employing images
that have a national profile many of the companies participating in the parade have deep local roots.
The Jessups of our local Pepsi had a long interest in Riverview.
Charlottesville is the crazy salad without trying.

tools in the rain
At the corner of Meadowbrook Heights & Grove (38.055790 -78.482827) I came across a pile of tools. What does it mean? There are few tool users in this neighborhood?
It is a neighborhood comprised of golden rule people? No one in the neighborhood walks?
No one in the neighborhood would stoop to pick up trash or treasure?
Cooking in Belmont
At 10:15 this morning members of the JADE task force executed a search warrant at 706 Franklin Street. Three individuals were detained. Materials were removed from what appeared to be a operational laboratory engaged in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Traffic control cordoned off 500 feet of Franklin Street and established a perimeter. The Fire Department and Hazardous Materials Team handled decontamination.
View from Mason Street looking east. Not able to say what is in the containers. Mr. White?
The operation was winding down around 1330 hrs.
Found this footware just outside the Police perimeter.
Goruck
Sunday morning foot traffic. These folk participating in a Goruck challenge.
