Sen Edwards addresses Voorhees

“We also have, and this won’t be news to anybody in this room, we have a country that in far too many ways is still divided by race. I grew up in the South in the 1950’s and 60’s, I’ve seen the ugliest side of segregation and discrimination. I still remember vividly, when I was growing up, seeing young African American kids sit upstairs in movie theaters, white-only signs on restaurants and luncheon counters. I still sense an enormous personal responsibility, I think all of us in the South have an enormous responsibility when it comes to race and equality and civil rights and that responsibility is to lead, not follow on these issues.” John Edwards, February 2, 2004
